Cell's Organelles

Organelles are subcellular structures, they perform different functions and directing the overall behaviour of the cell.

These are the main parts of the cell.

Nucleus Control total life activity of cell
Cytoplasm Part of cell outside nucleus; contains other important cell structures
Cell membrane Outer covering of the cell; holds in the cytoplasm but allows dissolved material to enter and leave the cell

Cytoplasm forms the greater part of the cell; contains other important cell organelle

Mitochondria The powerhouse of cell "burns" food to release energy
Ribosomes These are the sites where cell assembles enzymses and all other proteins
Endoplasmic Reticulum or ER The endoplasmic reticulum transport proteins from the nucleus
Golgi bodies Golgi bodies store and package proteins which the cell export
Vacuoles Clear area within the cytoplasm: contains food or cell wastes for storage or removal
Chloroplasts Green-colored body in the cytoplasm of most plant cells; contains chlorophyll
