Nucleus: Command chamber of the cell
|
Structure: The parts of the nucleus are (1)The nuclear membrane which encloses the nucleus, separating its contents from the cytoplasm. It is double membrane and it is perforated by pores. (2) Nucleus contains chromatin, a kind of material from which the dererminers of heridity (chrosomes) are formed. (3)A network of tiny thread called linin fibres which support the chromatin. (4) The most visible structure within the nondividing nucleus is the nucleolus, a small round body. Function: Anything that works, works best under control. For the cell, control is located in the nucleus. Almost all the cell does is supervised by the nucleus. The nucleus contains the genetic material, DNA, organized in a characterstic number of chromosomes in each eukaryotic species. Nucleus controls protein synthesis in cytoplasm by sending molecular messengers in the form of RNA. Nucleolus functions in the synthesis of ribosomes. |
