Diagram of the cell

cell

Cell Organelles : Living material of the cell ie. protoplasm is divided in three parts:

Nucleus Control total life activity of cell
Cytoplasm Part of cell outside nucleus; contains other important cell structures
Cell membrane Outer covering of the cell; holds in the cytoplasm but allows dissolved material to enter and leave the cell

Cytoplasm contain other cell organelles :

Mitochondria The powerhouse of cell "burns" food to release energy
Ribosomes These are the sites where cell assembles enzymses and all other proteins
Endoplasmic Reticulum or ER The ER transport proteins from the nucleus
Golgi bodies Golgi bodies store and package proteins which the cell export
Vacuoles Clear area within the cytoplasm: contains food or cell wastes for storage or removal
Chloroplasts Green-colored body in the cytoplasm of most plant cells; contains chlorophyll
Cell Wall Structure found outside the membrane of plant cells only; strengthens plant tissue
